In a recent development, CCTV footage intercepted by Akoma 87.9fm morning show #GhanAkoma has revealed a harrowing incident involving the late Okyem Aboagye’s 2M Express. The footage captured the narrow escape of the driver and passengers from an armed robbery attack on the Kumasi-Accra route.
The footage, recorded by installed CCTV cameras in the vehicle, depicted armed robbers firing gunshots at the 2M Express, resulting in a terrifying ordeal for the passengers. Reports indicate that numerous passengers were robbed at gunpoint, with some sustaining injuries during the incident.
According to accounts from the victims, approximately five suspects carried out the robbery, targeting passengers for their money, phones, and other valuables along the Asankare-Atwedie stretch of the road. The distressing event unfolded around 11:39 pm on Wednesday, February 21.
During an interview with the host of Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi, the driver of the 2M Express bus, Etiene, recounted the traumatic experience. He disclosed that the armed robbers were equipped with firearms, machetes, and large sticks, using violent force to intimidate and rob the passengers.
Etiene further revealed that some passengers endured physical assault when they were unable to meet the robbers' demands for money. One female passenger, in particular, was subjected to severe beatings and sustained injuries as a result of her inability to comply with the robbers' demands.
The driver also mentioned that the suspected armed robbers fled into a nearby bush upon hearing the sound of a police siren in the distance, evading capture.
