We are deeply disturbed by the recent events that have unfolded in the Volta Region, where a 34-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his own father. The Akatsi Municipal Police Command, in a commendable display of diligence, discovered the body of the victim, leading to the arrest of the father, Afealete Dzreke, also known as 'Hunor Akpatogui'.

The heinous act, which involved the murder of the son and the subsequent burial in a nearby bush at Dzuefe-Hamekope, has shocked the community and left many reeling in disbelief. The suspect has been remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Akatsi Magistrate Court on March 8, 2024.

In light of the severity of this crime, the body of the deceased will be transferred to Accra for further examination. This step is crucial in ascertaining the full extent of the tragedy that has befallen the victim. The presence of heavy police security during the exhumation process underscores the gravity of the situation and the need to maintain law and order.

Reports from sources within the Akatsi Police suggest that prior to this horrific incident, there had been a dispute between the deceased and the suspect. It is alleged that the suspect, who practiced as a fetish priest, was involved in illicit activities which led to tensions between him and his son.

The entire community is grappling with shock and disbelief as they come to terms with this tragic event. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.

As more details emerge and the legal process unfolds, we hope for swift justice for the victim and accountability for the perpetrator. It is imperative that such acts of violence are met with the full force of the law to ensure that justice is served and to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future.
