Police in Kumasi have arrested three men suspected of belonging to a motorcycle gang linked to midnight robberies and attacks on pedestrians.
The suspects—Sharif Mahmud, 23, Abdallah Karim, 25, and James Alena, 25—were arrested at Suame at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Arrests Follow Police Monitoring
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said a police team intercepted the suspects during an operation in the area.
According to the statement, the suspected gang had been engaging in illegal motorcycle racing on public roads at night and attacking unsuspecting pedestrians. These activities had caused fear and insecurity among residents.
The Command said it had been monitoring the group’s activities and movements before conducting the operation that resulted in the arrests.
Suspects Granted Police Inquiry Bail
The three suspects have since been granted police inquiry bail and are expected to appear before court after investigations are completed.
The police statement attributed the delay in their arraignment to the ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG). The allegations against the suspects remain under investigation.
Police Appeal for Public Assistance
Investigations are continuing as police work to identify and arrest other suspected members of the group who remain at large.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could support the investigation and assist in locating the remaining suspects.
