We are deeply concerned about the recent incident that occurred at the Benida Hotel located behind St. Moses Hospital in Pokuase. The Amasaman Circuit Court has remanded a suspect, Godwin Awuku, into police custody over an alleged theft of metal slabs and electrical cables valued at GHC 120,000.00.

According to Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah, the accused, Godwin Awuku, is a 29-year-old electric welder and resident of Dome in Accra. The complainant, Mr. Benjamin Danso, who is a trader and resident of Amasaman behind the Stadium, reported that he had been experiencing thefts of electrical cables and other items from his uncompleted hotel.

It was reported that on November 9, 2023, Awuku entered the compound of the complainant and stole metal slabs used to cover up the drainage system in the hotel compound, as well as installed electrical cables. He was apprehended in the act and subsequently arrested.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Awuku had also caused damage to the property including the metal slabs, Plastic of Paris (P.O.P) ceiling, and sliding windows belonging to Mr. Benjamin Danso. The total value of the stolen and damaged items amounted to GHC 120,000.00.

The complainant, Mr. Danso, promptly lodged a complaint with the police at Amasaman which led to the arraignment of the accused person. Awuku has denied the allegations of unlawful entry, damage to property, and theft.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures and vigilance in safeguarding properties. We hope that justice will prevail in this matter and that steps will be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future. Our thoughts are with Mr. Benjamin Danso and the staff of Benida Hotel during this challenging time.
