Two suspects arrested over murder of MoMo vendor in Walewale

We are deeply saddened to report the tragic incident that occurred in Walewale, in the North East Region, where two individuals lost their lives in a robbery and murder involving a mobile money vendor. The Ghana Police Service has taken swift action, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, Zakaria Yamusa alias Vandam and Fatao Issah, who are believed to be responsible for the heinous act.



According to a statement released by the Police, the suspects allegedly shot and killed two individuals, including the mobile money vendor, and caused injuries to seven others during the attack on 12th February 2024. The suspects are currently in custody and will be brought before the court to face justice.


In response to this tragic event, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has personally reached out to all the injured persons and the families of the deceased victims to offer his assurances of a thorough Police investigation. Additionally, the North-East Regional Police Commander has led a team of officers to visit the injured persons at the hospital and extend condolences to the families of the deceased.



The Police have also disclosed that an intelligence operation is ongoing to apprehend all other perpetrators involved in this appalling crime.


We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time. The Ghana Police Service remains committed to ensuring that justice is served, and we trust that the culprits will be brought to account for their actions.
