We have recently been informed of the escape of a Chinese inmate from the Nsawam Prison in Ghana. The inmate, who was serving a one-year sentence for theft and other serious offences, reportedly feigned illness and was subsequently transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for medical attention on February 7, 2024.

According to reports, the individual was initially arrested at Tema and later transferred to the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison. The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, has confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to rearrest the escaped inmate.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on February 12, 2024, Mr. Adamu stated that his office has gathered some leads to aid in the rearrest of the inmate. He also mentioned that the incident is currently under investigation and that they are making progress in their efforts.

"We have gotten a lot of leads that are proving to be successful in what we are doing," Mr. Adamu said.

The Ghana Prisons Service is working tirelessly to ensure that the escaped inmate is brought back into custody. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
