In a significant breakthrough, the Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of two pivotal suspects linked to the harrowing kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure, a Senegalese goalkeeper. This development comes as a result of a sustained intelligence-led operation carried out by the police force.
The tragic incident unfolded on October 16, 2025, when individuals purporting to be relatives of the late goalkeeper transported him to Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi. The victim bore several abdominal injuries, with claims made by the accompanying individuals that he had been involved in an accident. Unfortunately, Cheikh Toure was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Following this, the suspects reportedly deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo, Kumasi, before absconding. The police have now apprehended Salifu Walid, a 32-year-old Nigerien national, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24-year-old Burkinabe national. The arrests took place on September 20, 2026, at their hideout located in Banpanase near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
According to a statement released by the police, preliminary investigations have revealed that these two suspects are part of a larger four-member group believed to have orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure. This group allegedly posed as football scout agents, utilizing online networks to lure unsuspecting victims into Ghana under false pretenses.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed their involvement in the crime. They provided crucial information regarding their respective roles in deceiving the deceased into traveling to Ghana as part of an alleged fraudulent scheme.
The police have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and an individual identified as Barry. Both are currently at large and are suspected to have played central roles in the group's criminal activities.
The two apprehended suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be processed for court proceedings. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by fraudulent schemes and the importance of vigilance when dealing with unfamiliar entities online.
