The confirmation of the District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, Moses Arhinful Acquah, has sparked controversy and allegations of illegality. A group of 12 Assembly members in the district have raised concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding the confirmation process.

According to the Assembly members, the confirmation took place in the early hours of Sunday, March 10, 2024, despite previous indications that it would be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. This discrepancy in the timing of the confirmation has led to accusations of misleading information and a lack of transparency in the process.

The Assembly members have expressed their dismay at being excluded from the confirmation ceremony, which they claim only involved government appointees and assembly members of the New Patriotic Party. They have also alleged that the confirmation was carried out using questionable tactics, including a morning devotion of first mass, which they believe was used to smuggle in the DCE for the exercise.

Furthermore, the Presiding Member of the assembly and the District Director of Elections have both stated that they were not aware of the confirmation exercise. This lack of awareness raises further concerns about the integrity of the process.

In response to these developments, Asiabe Emmanuel, an assemblyman for Aberfo Samsamso electoral area, has called on the Electoral Commission, the Presiding Members, and all relevant stakeholders to address the anomalies and ensure that due process is followed.

The aggrieved Assembly members have indicated that they are considering their next course of action in light of these events.

It is essential for democratic processes to be conducted with transparency and integrity to uphold the principles of good governance. The concerns raised by the Assembly members in Awutu Senya West highlight the importance of adhering to proper procedures in all official matters. It is incumbent upon the relevant authorities to address these concerns and ensure that the interests of all stakeholders are taken into account.
