In a recent development that has raised concerns about law enforcement integrity, a police chief inspector stationed in the Ashanti Region is currently under investigation for allegedly owning unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB, which are purportedly being rented out to commercial sex workers. This revelation emerged following a demolition exercise conducted by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on July 8, 2026.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in a press statement dated July 10, underscored the seriousness of these allegations and assured the public that further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses. The allegations were initially brought to light by Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi. Mr. Boadi alleged that certain police officers are proprietors of these unauthorised structures, which have reportedly been used not only for prostitution but also for the sale of illegal drugs.
The demolition exercise, spearheaded by the KMA, targeted structures located at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD building. According to Mr. Boadi, some of these structures, which were demolished during the operation, were allegedly owned by police officers and had been repurposed into hubs for illicit activities.
The KMA has justified the demolition exercise as part of a broader initiative aimed at removing unauthorised structures that obstruct waterways. This effort is crucial for improving access to major drains for desilting purposes ahead of the approaching rainy season.
This incident has sparked a broader conversation about accountability and the ethical responsibilities of law enforcement officers. The public eagerly awaits further information from the ongoing investigation, hoping for transparency and justice in addressing these serious allegations.
As the situation unfolds, it remains imperative for all stakeholders involved to uphold the principles of integrity and accountability, ensuring that the rule of law is maintained and that public trust in law enforcement agencies is restored.
