We are saddened to report on a recent case of theft that has led to legal consequences for the perpetrator. A 22-year-old driver, Eric Ofosu Mensah, has been fined 100 penalty units, equivalent to GHC1,200.00, for stealing a banker’s tricycle valued at GHC14,000.00.

The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Kizita Naa Koowaa Quarshie, found Mensah guilty and subsequently sentenced him. The court made it clear that failure to pay the fine would result in a six-month jail term involving hard labor for Mensah.

According to Police Inspector Bobie Ansah-DaCosta, the complainant, Mr. Michael Adu-Poku, a businessman from Sakumono, employed Mensah as a driver and laborer at his block factory in Ashaiman. Mensah's responsibilities included molding cement blocks and delivering them to customers as per the complainant’s instructions.

The prosecution revealed that Mensah was entrusted with the task of delivering 2,500 six-inch solid blocks to a customer at GHC8.00 each. However, on February 23, 2024, Mensah used the complainant’s Loujin Tricycle to deliver only 400 pieces to the client.

Subsequently, Mensah disappeared without notice, leaving the complainant unable to locate either him or the tricycle. After the complainant reported the missing tricycle to the Sakumono Police, Mensah was apprehended on March 14, 2024, in his hometown along with the tricycle.

In his statement during the investigation, Mensah admitted to the offense.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of trust and integrity in the workplace. We hope that justice has been served and that all parties involved can find closure.
