In recent days, troubling reports have surfaced regarding the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Opoku-Ahweneeh Danquah. Allegations of extensive overseas travel and extravagant spending have sparked discontent among GNPC employees and the public at large.

According to sources, Mr. Danquah has been frequently absent from the country, engaging in transactions whose benefits are yet to be realized. This has raised concerns about the financial burden on the GNPC and the lack of tangible returns from these endeavors.

Additionally, there have been revelations about substantial increases in allowances for the GNPC board and management, despite assurances of a general pay-cut in light of Ghana's economic crisis. The reported escalation in allowances for overseas travel and accommodation expenses has only served to intensify the dissatisfaction among stakeholders.

Of particular concern is a proposed salary increment for Mr. Danquah, which, if approved by the Board, would result in a staggering 120% increase in his allowances, totaling nearly GH¢600,000 monthly. This has understandably fueled outrage among public sector workers and further eroded confidence in the corporation's governance.

Furthermore, allegations of opaque expenditures and a lack of accountability for the CEO's financial activities have cast a shadow over the management of GNPC. The apparent absence of receipts for accommodation expenses has only added to the growing skepticism surrounding the corporation's operations under the Akufo-Addo government.

Amidst these controversies, accusations of nepotism and extravagant spending have emerged, with Mr. Danquah purportedly requesting two brand new Land Cruisers as part of his remuneration package. These developments have only served to exacerbate the prevailing sense of unease and disquiet within the GNPC and the wider public.

In response to these revelations, there has been a groundswell of condemnation from various quarters. Calls for intervention from regulatory bodies such as the Public Services Commission and the Fair Wages Commission underscore the urgency of addressing these issues to safeguard GNPC from further financial turmoil.

As tensions continue to mount and discontent festers within the GNPC, it is imperative that decisive actions be taken to restore transparency, accountability, and confidence in the corporation's leadership.

The fate of GNPC's financial future hangs in the balance, and it is incumbent upon decision-makers to heed the growing clamor for meaningful reform. The need for thorough investigations and stringent measures to address these concerns has never been more pressing.

In summary, it is evident that the current state of affairs at GNPC demands immediate attention and remedial action. The corporation's stability and the welfare of its employees hinge on swift and resolute measures to address the issues at hand. Only through concerted efforts to uphold transparency and accountability can GNPC regain the trust and confidence of its stakeholders.
