We are deeply saddened to report on the recent clash between residents of Karaga and the military, which has resulted in one fatality and left three others injured from gunshot wounds. This unfortunate incident stemmed from a longstanding dispute over the chieftaincy of Karaga.

The conflict arose when a rival regent was reportedly enskinned following the passing of a self-proclaimed chief of the community. The appointment of Mahami Natogmah as the legitimate chief of Karaga by Yaa Naa Mahamadu Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, was contested by the immediate past regent, who continued to assert himself as the chief of Karaga.

Following the death of the self-proclaimed chief, tensions mounted as his supporters sought to enskin his eldest son as the new regent. This led to a gathering at the regent's house, which resulted in a confrontation with the military when they intervened to prevent the gathering. Tragically, the situation escalated into violence, culminating in gunfire and the loss of life, as well as injuries to three individuals.

In response to these events, a curfew has been imposed in the area, and additional security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and order.

It is imperative that all parties involved exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to peacefully resolve the underlying issues. Our thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time. We urge for a swift and peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of life and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
