The Ghana Prisons Service has responded to the recent incident involving two officers assisting a Chinese convict in escaping from Nsawam Medium Prison. The service emphasized that the actions of the two officers do not reflect the standards of the service and reiterated that all officers receive thorough training and adhere to a professional code of conduct.

The two officers, Joseph Oteng and Sergeant Isaac Boateng Bonsu, have been charged with conspiracy and aiding escape. They appeared in court and pleaded not guilty. The court granted them bail and they are scheduled to reappear in April 2024.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Prisons Service, Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, described the incident as unfortunate and emphasized that the service does not condone such behavior. He reiterated that the service will continue to educate and sensitize officers on the need for professionalism in their line of duty.

Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu also highlighted that the behavior exhibited by the two officers is not a true representation of the behaviors of prison officers in general, as the majority of officers conduct themselves professionally. He assured that the service will continue to work towards maintaining high standards and professionalism among its officers.
