In a recent development, Damango, the capital of the West Gonja District in the Savannah Region of Ghana, was once again marred by chieftaincy clashes resulting in two individuals sustaining gunshot injuries. The clash occurred in the early hours of Thursday, March 7, 2024, as two opposing factions engaged in a longstanding chieftaincy dispute.

The specific location of the clash was reported to be Langbonto, a suburb of Damongo. Disturbingly, reports from the region indicate that the chieftaincy dispute has persisted for over eight years, leading to this unfortunate outbreak of violence.

The situation necessitated the intervention of both the police and military forces to restore calm and order to the area. It is disheartening to witness such conflicts within communities, and it is imperative for all stakeholders to work towards finding a peaceful resolution to this longstanding chieftaincy dispute.

As this situation unfolds, it is crucial for authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of the residents in the affected area. Furthermore, efforts should be made to address the underlying issues fueling the chieftaincy dispute, with the aim of fostering lasting peace and stability within the community.

We hope that swift and effective measures will be taken to prevent any further escalation of tensions and to facilitate constructive dialogue towards a sustainable resolution. Our thoughts are with those affected by this regrettable incident, and we urge for a concerted effort towards promoting harmony and understanding within Damango and its surrounding areas.
