The High Court in Accra has recently adjourned a significant case involving the alleged robbery of former Second Lady Mrs. Matilda Yaaba Amissah-Arthur and four others. The adjournment, which took place on May 2, 2024, was to allow for the consideration of a bail application filed by the defendant's legal team.

Yahuza Osumanu, who claims to be a businessman, is facing 26 charges, including robbery and money laundering. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts and has been remanded in custody. The defense, led by Paul Asibi Abariga, requested additional time to review the prosecution's opposition to their bail application.

During the court proceedings, Abariga expressed the need for more time to thoroughly examine the prosecution's affidavit in opposition to their bail application. He emphasized the importance of closely scrutinizing the filed documents in order to adequately prepare their arguments for bail.

In response to this request, the defense counsel humbly asked for an extension, suggesting the possibility of returning the following day to present their response. The State Prosecutors, led by Amanda Awadey, are expected to file their Witness Statements by May 21.

The case stems from an alleged attack and robbery of Mrs. Matilda Yaaba Amissah-Arthur, the wife of the late Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur. The accused is said to have robbed her of various currencies, a gold watch, and a necklace. Additionally, businessman David Adjaye and three others were reportedly robbed at gunpoint of their valuable properties by the same individual.

The Court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, has directed the Prosecution to complete their disclosures and instructed that the formal bail application be served on the Prosecution in advance.

This case has garnered significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved. As the legal proceedings unfold, it will be essential to closely monitor the developments and eventual outcome of the bail application.

Stay tuned for further updates on this case as it continues to unfold in the High Court in Accra.
