The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has taken a firm stance against the destruction of trees by cattle in the region. Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has announced plans to arrest cattle found damaging trees, particularly those off reserves. This decision comes in response to the significant losses incurred by the state due to the destruction of royal palms planted in the city.

Mr. Mensah emphasized the council's zero-tolerance policy towards such destructive activities and stated that the owners of the offending cattle will be fined, and the animals detained before being released. This proactive approach aims to protect the region's greenery and hold accountable those responsible for the damage.

In addition to addressing the issue of cattle, Mr. Mensah also condemned illegal mining activities that are wreaking havoc on lands and reserves. He called for an immediate end to these harmful practices, highlighting the importance of preserving the region's natural resources.

These remarks were made by Mr. Mensah during the Green Ghana Day event in Kumasi, where a target of planting 2.5 million trees in the region was set. The event saw participation from various stakeholders including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, schools, churches, and non-governmental organizations, all coming together for the noble cause of tree-planting.

The commitment of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to protect the region's environment and natural resources is commendable. By taking a strong stance against destructive activities such as cattle damage and illegal mining, they are setting an example for responsible environmental stewardship. It is crucial for all members of the community to join hands in preserving the greenery and biodiversity of the region for the benefit of current and future generations.
