We are deeply saddened to report the tragic incident that occurred at O’Reilly Senior High School on Monday, September 2, 2024. An altercation between two students, Edward Borketey Sackey and a fellow student identified as Godwin, resulted in the fatal stabbing of Sackey. This has sent shockwaves through the school and the broader community.

Sackey, a General Arts student, was involved in a heated argument with Godwin, a Visual Arts student, following the completion of an exam. The argument, reportedly sparked by a comparison of their fathers' wealth, escalated into a physical confrontation during which Sackey was allegedly stabbed multiple times by Godwin.

Despite the desperate efforts of his peers to save his life, Sackey was pronounced dead upon arrival at the LEKMA Hospital. The distressing event has been further amplified by the circulation of videos and photos on social media, depicting the frantic attempts to assist Sackey and the heartbreaking sight of him lying unconscious.

In response to this tragedy, a crucial meeting was held between the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the school's management. The meeting, attended by the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education and the Municipal Director of Education at the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), focused on campus discipline and the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Subsequently, an 18-year-old student identified as Godwin has been arrested and charged with murder. He made his initial court appearance on September 5 and is scheduled to return to court on September 19 for further proceedings.

This devastating loss serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of maintaining discipline and fostering a safe and respectful environment within educational institutions. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Edward Borketey Sackey during this difficult time.
