We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred over the weekend in Iron City, a suburb of Kasoa, Central Region, where a prison officer, Gideon Adu Boakye, was allegedly lynched. Mr. Boakye, who was stationed at Nsawam Maximum Prison, was visiting his parents when this devastating event took place.
Eyewitnesses have claimed that Mr. Boakye was mistaken for a thief, leading to the unfortunate outcome. His body was later discovered in a gutter near Hope of Restoration School, near Red Ball, days after the incident.
In light of this distressing event, the Ghana Prisons Service has reported that they are working closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Supt. Adamu Latif Abdul, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, expressed their cooperation with the ongoing police investigation.
"We heard on October 1 that one of our officers was unfortunately lynched at Kasoa. That is the information we have gathered so far. The police have commenced investigations into the whole issue. We have gathered that he went to visit his mother, and he went out to attend to some issues and the incident happened. Days later when he didn’t return the mother reported to the police. The issue is in the hands of the police, and we are waiting to find out what actually happened," said Supt. Adamu Latif Abdul.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Mr. Gideon Adu Boakye during this difficult time. It is our hope that the investigation will provide clarity and bring about the necessary accountability for this tragic loss.
