In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the community of Gomoa Akotsi in shock, a gas station owner, Martin Okyere, tragically lost his life during an armed robbery in the early hours of Thursday, November 28, 2024. The incident occurred in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region and has sparked calls for justice and improved security measures.



The deceased, affectionately known as "Italian Burger," was a 50-year-old man who had been operating the gas station for over 11 years. His dedication to his business and his contributions to the community made him a well-known and respected figure in the area.


According to eyewitness accounts, the robbery unfolded in a terrifying manner. Richmond Agyei, who was nearby at the time, recounted hearing multiple gunshots and rushing to the scene. Upon arrival, he witnessed the robbers ransacking Mr. Okyere's room while the victim lay in a pool of blood. Despite efforts to intervene and rescue the victim, Mr. Agyei and one of Mr. Okyere's daughters narrowly escaped harm.


Tragically, Mr. Okyere succumbed to his gunshot wounds, leaving his family and the community devastated. His sister, Lucas Esi, expressed her grief and called on the Ghana Police Service to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. Her emotional plea underscores the urgent need for swift action and accountability in addressing such heinous crimes.


This incident highlights the growing concerns surrounding safety and security in the region. Armed robberies not only result in loss of life but also instill fear and uncertainty among residents.
