The Electoral Commission (EC) is investigating an incident involving its District Electoral Officer (DEO) for Afadjato South in the Volta Region.  The DEO was questioned by police on Thursday, December 5th, for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without the required police escort.

According to a statement released by the EC, the police took custody of the election materials. The EC's policy mandates that all election materials be transported in official vehicles, accompanied by a police escort when necessary.  This incident constitutes a clear breach of established protocol.

Samuel Tettey, the EC's Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, signed the statement confirming the incident and the ongoing investigations.  The EC is conducting its own internal investigation while fully cooperating with the police in their inquiries.

Despite this breach of protocol, the EC assures the public that the integrity of the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency remains uncompromised.

The Commission emphasizes its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its operations.  The swift action taken by both the police and the EC demonstrates a commitment to upholding electoral standards and maintaining public trust.  The outcome of both investigations will be made public in due course.
