A manhunt is underway for two suspected armed robbers who escaped with a significant amount of gold and other valuables following an attack on community mining workers in Manso Watreso, Amansie South District.  The incident unfolded after two of the robbers' accomplices were lynched by angry residents.

The robbers, armed and unidentified, targeted miners returning home from work.  According to Kofi Mensah, the Assembly Member for the Manso Watreso Electoral Area, the robbers made off with over 30 pounds of gold, the keys to a pickup truck, and more than GH¢11,000 in cash.

Following an alarm raised by the community, residents apprehended two of the robbers and, tragically, lynched them on the spot.  The remaining two suspects, however, managed to escape with the stolen goods.

The Assembly Member reported the incident to the police, who have since retrieved the bodies of the deceased and placed them in a morgue.  A full investigation into the matter has been launched, and a comprehensive search operation is underway to apprehend the two remaining suspects.  The police are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to their arrest.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by mining communities in the region, particularly concerning security and the rule of law. The brutal nature of the lynching also underscores the need for community dialogue and conflict resolution strategies to prevent such acts of vigilantism.

The police are urging residents to cooperate with the investigation and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.  The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
