A 15-year-old girl is in police custody following her arrest for allegedly stealing GH₵41,000 and an unspecified amount of gold from a gold shop in Twifo Praso, Twifo Ati-Morkwa District, Central Region. The arrest, made at Egyaa in the Mfantseman Municipality, followed a tip-off and the girl's capture on CCTV footage stealing from the shop.
The incident occurred on January 28, 2025, when the girl, accompanied by an eight-year-old, visited the gold shop ostensibly to inquire about purchasing mercury. While the shop attendant, Enoch Boateng, briefly left the shop to make a purchase, the 15-year-old seized the opportunity to steal the cash and gold.
Police investigations revealed that the teenager distributed a portion of the stolen GH₵41,000 among accomplices, including her boyfriend, who allegedly received GH₵15,000. Authorities are actively pursuing the remaining individuals involved in the crime.
The arrest highlights the increasing sophistication of juvenile crime and underscores the need for heightened security measures in businesses, particularly those handling valuable items like gold and cash. The ongoing police investigation aims to bring all perpetrators to justice and recover the remaining stolen gold.
