In a chilling case that shook the nation, the Ghana Police Service has successfully resolved the investigation into the brutal murder of a 39-year-old woman, Alberta Hagan, and two of her children in May 2024. The tragic incident occurred at Tuba Netlink Estates, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region, and left the community reeling in shock and grief.

At a press conference held on Saturday, September 19, 2025, in Accra, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, provided detailed updates on the case. Her revelations shed light on the horrific events that transpired and the painstaking efforts of law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice.

The Incident: A Scene of Horror

Narrating the events of May 19, 2024, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor described the scene as one of unimaginable brutality. Police officers who responded to the emergency call discovered Alberta Hagan and her three children lying in a pool of blood within their residence. The CID boss confirmed that Alberta and one of her children had succumbed to deep head injuries before police arrived.

"Police inspected the bodies and detected that one of the children was alive but had sustained multiple deep cuts on his head, with blood oozing from his ear. Additionally, a five-month-old baby was found alive on a sofa in the hall," COP Donkor stated. The injured child was rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed that the victims died from severe head injuries caused by assault, further emphasizing the vicious nature of the attack.

The Investigation: Unraveling a Disturbing Motive

Months of rigorous investigation revealed that Alberta Hagan's lover, identified as Samuel Amoah—also known as "Biggie"—was responsible for the heinous crime. According to COP Donkor, Amoah had been living with Alberta and her children but their relationship had deteriorated due to a dispute over financial matters.

"In a fit of rage, the suspect attacked Alberta and two of her children who witnessed the incident," COP Donkor explained. Following the crime, Amoah fled the scene and went into hiding, evading capture for over a year.

The Arrest: Justice Takes Its Course

The breakthrough in the case came after sustained intelligence operations by law enforcement officials. On September 17, 2025, Amoah was apprehended in Suhum in the Eastern Region. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the murders and expressed regret for his actions.

"The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with further investigations. He will be arraigned before the courts to face charges relating to the murders," COP Donkor confirmed.

Community Impact and Moving Forward

The murder of Alberta Hagan and her children has left an indelible mark on the Kasoa community and beyond. The resolution of this case serves as a reminder of the importance of justice and accountability in addressing violent crimes. It also highlights the critical role of law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety.

As Amoah faces legal proceedings, many hope that justice will be served for Alberta Hagan and her family. The Ghana Police Service's commitment to resolving this case demonstrates their dedication to protecting citizens and upholding the rule of law.

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need to address domestic violence and disputes that escalate into fatal outcomes. It is a call to action for communities, authorities, and individuals to work collectively in preventing such devastating occurrences in the future.

Conclusion

The resolution of this case marks a significant milestone for law enforcement and offers some closure to those affected by this tragedy. As Ghana mourns the loss of Alberta Hagan and her children, it is crucial to continue advocating for measures that promote peaceful conflict resolution and safeguard lives within households and communities.

May their souls rest in peace as justice takes its course.
