In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended a suspect in connection with a series of robberies and murders targeting taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region. The suspect, identified as Peter Akakpo, also known by the alias "Dompe," was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into these heinous crimes, which have particularly affected the Odorkor area.
The investigation was launched following the tragic deaths of two taxi drivers at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on May 9th and June 15th, 2025, respectively. These incidents raised alarm within the community and prompted law enforcement to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Through intelligence-led operations, law enforcement officials initially arrested a suspect, Vincent Gbetorglo, on June 30th, 2025. Further inquiries revealed that Gbetorglo had been in contact with Peter Akakpo, whose phone number was linked to both deceased victims. This critical lead set the stage for further investigations.
After weeks of sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance, the CID successfully located and arrested Peter Akakpo on October 13th, 2025. The arrest took place in Kasoa-Domeabra, where Akakpo was found in a room rented by his alleged accomplice, Vincent Gbetorglo. Notably, Akakpo is reported to be an ex-convict, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Efforts are currently underway to recover the vehicles belonging to the deceased taxi drivers. These vehicles may provide additional evidence and insights into the crimes.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that they remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their families. Updates on the case will be shared as new developments arise.
This case underscores the importance of community vigilance and robust intelligence operations in combating crime and ensuring public safety. The swift action by law enforcement serves as a reminder of their dedication to protecting citizens and maintaining law and order.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity or provide relevant information to aid in ongoing investigations. Together, law enforcement and the community can work towards a safer environment for all.
