Accra, Ghana – The Circuit Court in Accra has granted bail to Roland Kweku Abotsi, a 33-year-old unemployed man, who is facing charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry, stealing, and causing unlawful damage. Abotsi pleaded not guilty to all charges when he appeared before His Honour Jojo Amoah Hagan.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with two sureties. One of the sureties is required to justify the bail with landed property. The case has been adjourned to December 2, 2025, for a case management conference (CMC).

Details of the Alleged Crime

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Nego Dzigbordi, the complainant, Noah Agbovie, a carpenter residing at Wogbobu Avenue, Baatsonaa, reported that his room was broken into on October 10, 2025. Agbovie stated that he had left for work after securing his room with two slide tower bolt locks and padlocks.

The prosecution alleges that Roland Abotsi, along with an accomplice identified as Kingsley (who is currently at large), broke into Agbovie’s room by damaging the locks. The pair allegedly stole a 6kg gas cylinder, a cooking pot, a small saucepan, electrical cables, a metal toolbox with tools, a bubble level, a decoder, and GH¢135,000 in cash.

Eyewitness Account and Arrest

Inspector Dzigbordi informed the court that two witnesses, Kaba Junior and another individual, saw the accused persons carrying two white nylon sacks containing some of the stolen items. When confronted, Kingsley reportedly escaped, but Roland Abotsi was apprehended and handed over to the Baatsonaa Divisional Police.

The complainant, Noah Agbovie, identified the retrieved items as his property and confirmed that a large sum of money he had kept under his bed was missing.

Accused's Defense

In his caution statement, Roland Abotsi denied the offences. He claimed that Kingsley was an old schoolmate he encountered in the neighborhood on the day of the incident and that he was unaware of Kingsley’s residence.

Following police investigations, Abotsi was charged and arraigned before the court. Authorities are currently working to apprehend Kingsley, the alleged accomplice.
