In a distressing case emerging from the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region, a 23-year-old unemployed man has been accused of defiling a nine-year-old girl in Jema. The alleged incident reportedly took place on November 4, 2025. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been granted a police enquiry bail set at GHC100,000 with a surety.
Inspector David Akologo, an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Jema Police Station, provided details about the case during an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA). According to Inspector Akologo, the suspect has denied any involvement in the crime. The police, however, are still awaiting the results of a medical report from the victim to aid in their investigation.
The case took a dramatic turn when it was revealed that the victim’s grandmother allegedly attempted to shield the suspect following the incident. A misunderstanding reportedly arose between the grandmother and another party, during which the grandmother inadvertently mentioned the act. This revelation led to further scrutiny and eventually reached the victim’s father, who subsequently reported the matter to the police.
The police acted swiftly by arresting and detaining the suspect. Inspector Akologo confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that the case docket will be forwarded to the Attorney General for further advice on how to proceed.
This case highlights the need for vigilance and justice in addressing such sensitive and serious allegations. The authorities are urged to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation to ascertain the truth and safeguard the rights of all parties involved, particularly those of the young victim.
As investigations continue, the public is reminded of the importance of reporting incidents of abuse and supporting victims in seeking justice. Cases like these underscore the critical role of law enforcement and community vigilance in combating crimes against vulnerable individuals.
