In a significant breakthrough, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 39-year-old man believed to be a major distributor of narcotic drugs in the Berekum Municipality and its neighboring communities in the Bono Region. The suspect, identified as David Frimpong, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Berekum Divisional Police Command at Nyamebekyere, a suburb of Berekum.
A press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Bono Regional Command, signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, detailed the circumstances surrounding the arrest. According to the statement, Mr. Frimpong was apprehended at his residence, which is a semi-completed building. Upon noticing the presence of law enforcement officers, the suspect attempted to escape but was swiftly subdued and taken into custody.
During a thorough search of the premises, law enforcement officers uncovered a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The items seized included 57 compressed slabs of dried leaves, 195 wraps of dried leaves, and three sacks containing additional quantities of dried leaves. Furthermore, a container of ‘groundnut cake’ toffee, believed to have been infused with the suspected narcotic substance, was also retrieved.
Additional items discovered at the scene included six pairs of scissors, 14 packs of cigarettes, and 190 wrapping papers. These items have been retained as exhibits and will undergo evidential and forensic examination to aid in the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that Mr. Frimpong has been actively engaged in the distribution of narcotic drugs within Berekum and its surrounding areas. The police believe his operations have contributed significantly to the proliferation of illegal substances in the region.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with further investigations. Authorities have confirmed that he will be processed to face legal proceedings in accordance with Ghanaian law.
This arrest highlights the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities across the country. The police have reiterated their resolve to intensify efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
The public is encouraged to support law enforcement agencies in their fight against drug-related activities by providing timely and accurate information that can aid in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in such illegal operations. Together, communities and law enforcement can work towards a safer and drug-free society.
Further updates on this case will be provided as investigations continue.
