In a significant development, the Awutu Ofaakor Circuit Court, under the jurisdiction of Her Honour Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, has remanded 12 National Security officers and two alleged land guards in connection with the unlawful demolition of over 60 buildings under construction in Gomoa Akoti, located in the Gomoa East District. This decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the rising concerns of illegal land activities in the area.

The incident, which has drawn widespread attention, involved the destruction of properties belonging to lawful landowners. According to earlier reports by Adom News, the suspects were apprehended by the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command for their alleged roles in the illegal demolition spree. The arrests mark a critical step in ensuring justice for the affected individuals and upholding the rule of law in land-related matters.

The accused face four serious charges: conspiracy to commit a crime, using force and violence to prevent lawful landowners from exercising their rights, causing fear and panic, and obstructing developers from carrying out construction on their rightful properties. These charges reflect the gravity of the alleged actions and their impact on both individual property owners and the broader community.

The court has ordered that the suspects remain in police custody, and they are scheduled to reappear before the court on 4th March 2026. This timeline provides an opportunity for further investigations and legal proceedings to take place as authorities work to ensure a fair trial.

Victims of the unlawful demolition expressed a sense of relief following the court's decision. Speaking to Adom News, several affected individuals commended the judicial system for taking decisive action against those accused of violating their rights. Many victims have endured significant losses due to the destruction of their properties, and this development offers a glimmer of hope for justice.

In light of these events, traditional authorities in Gomoa Akoti have called on law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to identify and eliminate all land guards operating in the area. Land guards, often associated with violent and illegal activities, pose a persistent threat to peace and security in many communities across Ghana. The call for action underscores the urgency of addressing this issue comprehensively to prevent future occurrences.

The case highlights broader concerns surrounding land disputes and the protection of property rights in Ghana. It serves as a reminder of the need for robust legal frameworks, effective enforcement mechanisms, and community collaboration to address issues related to land ownership and development.

As this case unfolds, all eyes remain on the judicial process to ensure that justice is served. The outcome will not only determine the fate of the accused but also set a precedent for addressing similar cases in the future. For now, residents of Gomoa Akoti and its surrounding areas can take solace in knowing that steps are being taken to restore order and uphold the rule of law.
