In a decisive operation spearheaded by the Ghana Police Service, a human trafficking and organised cybercrime syndicate has been dismantled in Pokuase, located in the Greater Accra Region. The operation, described as intelligence-led and targeted, was conducted on Thursday by the Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, with support from Combat Teams and the Surveillance Unit.

A total of 22 suspects were apprehended at the primary location in Pokuase-Afiaman, which was identified as a large-scale cyber fraud hub colloquially known as a "Yahoo Boys" base. According to police reports, the suspects were actively engaged in fraudulent activities using computer systems at the time of the raid.

Preliminary investigations have uncovered a structured hierarchy within the syndicate. This includes individuals tasked with maintaining control and discipline over trafficked persons. A situational report (SITREP) obtained by Graphic Online revealed that the operation exposed significant evidence of international internet fraud activities being orchestrated from the location.

The police suspect that this syndicate is part of a broader transnational criminal network involved in human trafficking and cyber fraud. There are indications that some of the younger individuals apprehended may themselves be victims of coercion and forced labour, further highlighting the exploitative nature of the criminal enterprise.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating organised crime, protecting vulnerable individuals, and ensuring that perpetrators of human trafficking and cyber-related offences face justice. The operation underscores the dedication of law enforcement agencies to dismantling criminal networks that threaten public safety and exploit human lives.

Investigations into the syndicate are ongoing, with authorities working to uncover additional links and ensure accountability for all involved parties. The Ghana Police Service continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid in the fight against organised crime.
