In a deeply troubling case, preliminary investigations have revealed allegations of sexual abuse involving a stepfather and his stepdaughter, spanning a period of approximately three years. The suspect, who reportedly began living with the complainant, the victim's mother, in 2023, formalized their union through marriage on February 20, 2026.
According to police reports, the victim disclosed the alleged abuse during a visit to her grandfather in Cape Coast. She confided that her stepfather had subjected her to repeated acts of sexual abuse, including forced sexual intercourse and other inappropriate conduct, particularly during times when her mother was not at home.
The victim further alleged that the suspect had threatened her into silence, reportedly saying, "I will kill you if you inform anyone about this." These threats, combined with the abuse, left the victim in a state of fear and vulnerability.
Upon receiving the report, law enforcement authorities acted swiftly. The suspect has since been arrested and cautioned. He is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations into the matter.
The Accra Regional Police Command has issued a statement reassuring the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting children and ensuring their safety. The statement, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Regional Police Command, emphasized the importance of vigilance in identifying and reporting suspected cases of abuse.
“The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to protecting children and urges parents and guardians to promptly report any suspected abuse or threats to the Police for swift intervention,” the statement read.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the critical role that family members, guardians, and communities play in safeguarding children from harm. Authorities continue to urge individuals to remain alert to signs of abuse and to report any suspicions to law enforcement agencies without delay.
