In a development that has sparked significant public interest, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). This decision was handed down by the Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The case stems from allegations that Mr. Baffoe published a video online containing derogatory remarks directed at a Circuit Court judge. In the video, he reportedly accused the judge of consistently presiding over politically charged cases and delivering rulings that were "wrong and full of grammatical errors." The prosecution further alleged that Mr. Baffoe made inflammatory comments aimed at undermining the credibility of the judiciary. One of his statements, as cited in court, read: “You are not a judge but rather a politician who has covered your hair with a sack claiming you are a judge.”

According to the prosecution, these remarks came in the wake of a separate case involving a pastor who had made disparaging comments about the Vice President. Prosecutors argued that Mr. Baffoe's statements were intended to incite public discontent against the court and the presiding judge.

The charges leveled against Mr. Baffoe include one count of publication of false news and one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace. Both charges carry serious implications under Ghanaian law.

During Wednesday’s court proceedings, Mr. Baffoe’s legal team submitted an application for bail, which was subsequently denied by the presiding judge. The court ordered that he remain in BNI custody until his next appearance, scheduled for May 27, 2026.

The case has drawn mixed reactions from various quarters. Supporters of Mr. Baffoe have expressed concerns over what they perceive as an attempt to stifle free speech, while others have lauded the move as a necessary step to uphold judicial integrity and maintain public order.

This case highlights the delicate balance between freedom of expression and the need to preserve respect for judicial authority. As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes will remain on the Accra Circuit Court to see how this matter unfolds.

For now, Mr. Kwame Baffoe remains in custody, with his fate hanging in the balance pending further judicial deliberations.
