We have received disturbing news from the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, where three suspects have been arrested for the alleged killing of a 31-year-old man at Wlitey-Agamakope.
The victim, Christopher Alavi, had gone missing after leaving home to attend a family meeting at Lume Ahugakope on September 7, 2023. It is with great sadness that we report the tragic outcome of this disappearance.
According to Mr. Agbenyega Klaye, the regent of Wlitey-Gamakope, Simon Dorve, a 41-year-old fetish priest and resident of the area, is considered the prime suspect in this heinous crime. The shocking nature of the alleged act is compounded by the suspect's own confession to murdering the deceased and removing his head and both legs for rituals.
A police source has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Dorve and two other accomplices. Godfred, a student, and Ahomey Gbeti, also a fetish priest, were apprehended for being in possession of belongings belonging to the deceased.
Following interrogation, Ahomey Gbeti confessed to committing the crime with the main suspect, leading to the discovery of the deceased's motorbike and body, along with some buried body parts.
Mr. Dorve was subsequently arrested to assist in further investigations. It has been disclosed that the police are expected to exhume the remaining parts of the body.
The suspects were arraigned at the Akatsi Magistrate Court and have been remanded in police custody. They are scheduled to reappear on March 13 for further legal proceedings.
This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for continued vigilance and cooperation within our communities to ensure the safety and security of all individuals. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Christopher Alavi during this difficult time.
