We are deeply saddened to report the tragic death of Adu Boakye, a 39-year-old Ghanaian who was shot dead in Toronto, Canada. The incident took place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at approximately 3 pm in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area while Adu Boakye was waiting at a bus stop.

According to the Toronto Police Service, Adu Boakye died as a result of indiscriminate shooting at the bus stop. Shockingly, less than 24 hours prior to this incident, an unnamed 16-year-old boy was also shot indiscriminately in the same area.

Detective Phillip Campbell stated, "Our investigation thus far has revealed there is no relationship between Mr. Boakye and the individual, or individuals, who shot him. And like the victim shot the day before, Mr. Boakye was innocently going about his business when he was shot."

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Adu Boakye sustained three gunshot wounds and tragically succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. He had only recently moved to Canada three months prior and leaves behind four children.

The Toronto Police Service has identified the suspect through video canvassing. The suspect is described as a male, black, 18-25 years old, with a thin build. He was wearing a black coat, a white hoodie, black pants, black shoes, a black face covering, and possibly a white surgical mask at the time of the attack. The suspect fled the scene in a stolen black Acura RDX with license plate CVEN 900, which has since been located in Hamilton.

At present, the suspect remains at large. The Toronto Police have urged residents of the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

This senseless act of violence has shaken the community, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Adu Boakye during this difficult time. The pursuit of justice for Adu Boakye is ongoing, and we hope for a swift resolution to this tragic incident.
