In a recent development, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ododiodiodio Constituency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has urged the government to prioritize investment in the training of professional Close Protection Officers. This call to action aims to enhance the safety of government officials and heads of institutions.

During the graduation ceremony of the maiden Close Protection Training (CPT) at the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, the MP emphasized the importance of freeing the police and military from close protection duties. This, he believes, will enable these security forces to focus on their core mandates.

The four-week training, conducted in collaboration with the Delta Flash Protection Agency (DFPA), seeks to cultivate highly skilled professionals equipped with the necessary knowledge and practical expertise to execute their duties in a more advanced and professional manner.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye highlighted the significance of having professionally trained individuals responsible for the security of Very Important Personalities (VIPs), emphasizing that this approach would alleviate the burden on law enforcement agencies and allow them to fulfill their designated responsibilities effectively.

The MP underscored the need for a more sophisticated security establishment in the country, stressing that personal security should be approached with a professional touch. He pointed out that recent events, such as the kidnapping of Takoradi girls in 2021, underscored the urgency for investing in professionals to safeguard individuals of higher authority.

Furthermore, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye encouraged companies, establishments, and institutions to consider providing this essential training to ensure adequate security for their leadership figures. By doing so, they can mitigate the potential costs associated with the loss of important persons due to inadequate protection.

The graduation ceremony saw 12 participants successfully completing the training program and receiving certificates. These individuals are now equipped with skills in fire protection and firefighting, swimming and survival techniques, threat identification, surveillance, intelligence gathering, vehicle and personal security, tactical surveillance, weapon handling, and countermeasures against criminal activities and acts of terrorism.

In conclusion, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye's advocacy for investing in professional Close Protection Officers reflects a proactive approach to addressing security concerns for government officials and prominent figures. By prioritizing the training of individuals dedicated to close protection duties, the government and relevant stakeholders can contribute to a safer and more secure environment for all.
