We are pleased to share the recent developments in the case of the late Major Maxwell Adams Mahama, as well as the key insights from the meeting between the family of the deceased and Mr. Godfred Dame, the Attorney General.

During the meeting at his office in Accra, Mr. Dame emphasized that mob justice would not be tolerated in the country. He stressed that individuals cannot take the law into their own hands to mete out punishment. This statement comes in the wake of the tragic incident involving the late Major Maxwell Adams Mahama, who was mistakenly lynched by a mob in 2017.

The family of the late Major Maxwell Adams Mahama visited the Attorney General's office to express their appreciation to Mr. Dame and the prosecution team for their efforts in seeking justice for their beloved family member. It is heartening to note that justice has been served, with 12 individuals, including a former Assemblyman, being found guilty of various charges related to the murder. The court, led by Justice Mariama Owusu, convicted and sentenced them to life imprisonment, setting an important precedent against mob injustice.

It is evident that this case has prompted significant reflection on the country's criminal justice system. Mr. Dame highlighted that reforms have been initiated to address delays in trials and ensure more efficient dispensation of justice. Furthermore, there are plans to reform the jury system, with considerations for alternative approaches to streamline legal proceedings.

The passage of the Vigilantism And Related Offences Act further underscores the government's commitment to combating all forms of violence in the country. Mr. Dame acknowledged that while these reforms are crucial, it is regrettable that such a tragic loss had to occur for these lessons to be learned.

The family of the late Major Maxwell Adams Mahama expressed gratitude for the support they have received and emphasized their hope that similar incidents will never be repeated. They also raised concerns about the current state of the late Captain's tomb, urging the government to ensure its proper upkeep.

In conclusion, it is evident that the pursuit of justice for Major Maxwell Adams Mahama has prompted significant reforms and reflection within the country's legal framework. The commitment to upholding the rule of law and preventing mob injustice is a crucial step towards ensuring a just and safe society for all citizens. Our thoughts remain with the family of the late Major Maxwell Adams Mahama, and we hope that their call for proper care of his final resting place will be heeded.

As we reflect on these developments, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to upholding justice and preventing any form of vigilante or mob action in our society.
