We are saddened to report a tragic incident that occurred in Diabene, a community in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western region. A cement truck, bearing registration number GN 6512-16, was involved in an accident which resulted in the loss of one life.

The truck was loaded with eight hundred bags of cement destined for distribution to retailers in Diabene and its environs, having been loaded from its Ehyiamu depot. Along the journey, the driver picked up four individuals to assist with the offloading process.

Tragically, while ascending a mountain in the Diabene community, the truck experienced brake failure, causing it to move in reverse at an uncontrollable speed. Despite the driver's efforts to halt the vehicle, it proved futile.

In a desperate attempt to save himself, one of the loading boys seated at the back of the truck leaped from the vehicle. Unfortunately, he landed in the path of the reversing truck and suffered fatal injuries as a result.

The lifeless body of the unidentified loading boy became trapped under the large middle tires of the truck, requiring intervention from personnel of the Ghana Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service to extricate the body from its position.

Mr. Adu, a recipient of the cement being transported, revealed that the driver had initially departed alone from the depot, with the loading boys joining him en route to facilitate the offloading process. Prior to the tragic incident, 200 bags had already been offloaded, with 600 bags remaining for distribution.

This unfortunate event serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers associated with riding at the back of trucks. The authorities urge individuals to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in such risky behavior.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. May they find strength and solace in the midst of this tragedy.
