In a recent case in Sun City, a suburb of Aboso, Mohammed Awal, a 29-year-old metal welder, has been fined GH¢6,000 for unlawfully causing harm to a businesswoman. Awal pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. In default of the fine, he faces five years in prison. Additionally, the court has ordered him to pay a sum of GH¢10,000 by April 30, 2024, as compensation to the victim.
According to Police Superintendent Juliana Essel-Dadzie, the complainant, whose name has been withheld, resides at New Site, a suburb of Tarkwa. On Monday, March 11, 2024, at about 1800 hours, she sent some products to her customer, Ibrahim Ali, who lives in the same house as Awal but was not present at the time.
Upon Ali's direction to wait for him in the house, the complainant encountered another lady who lived in the same house and decided to purchase some secondhand clothes from her. This seemingly innocuous transaction led to a confrontation with Awal, who emerged from the bathroom and reprimanded the complainant for making excessive noise. The situation escalated as Awal proceeded to verbally abuse the complainant, ultimately subjecting her to a severe beating that left her unconscious with multiple deep wounds on her right leg.
Fortunately, some residents in the neighborhood came to the complainant's aid and took her to the Aboso Health Centre for treatment. Subsequently, she reported the matter to the Aboso Police post, leading to Awal's arrest on March 18, 2024.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting the rights of others. Acts of violence and aggression have no place in our communities, and those who perpetrate such acts must be held accountable for their actions.
It is crucial for individuals to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving conflicts, and for communities to stand against any form of violence or harm inflicted on others. Through upholding these principles, we can strive towards creating safer and more harmonious environments for all members of society.
