The Ghana Police Service has recently expressed concern regarding isolated violations of the law at various Voter Registration Centres during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise. This has prompted the police to advise the public to adhere to the regulations governing the current limited voter registration process.
In a statement issued and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, the police emphasized the importance of exercising maximum restraint and acting in accordance with the laws that govern the registration process. The statement also condemned the unfortunate incidents that took place in some registration centres, including Cape Coast in the Central Region, Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, and Adugyama in the Ashanti Region.
Furthermore, the police revealed that several arrests have been made as investigations into these incidents continue. It was reiterated in the statement that registration is a civic responsibility that should be approached with civility. Additionally, a warning was issued, stating that the police will not tolerate any contempt for the law, and individuals who engage in such acts will face appropriate consequences.
It is imperative for all individuals involved in the voter registration process to conduct themselves in a lawful and respectful manner. The adherence to regulations and laws is crucial in ensuring a fair and transparent registration exercise.
The Ghana Police Service's commitment to upholding the law and maintaining order during the voter registration process is essential for fostering a peaceful and democratic society. It is incumbent upon all citizens to cooperate with the authorities and contribute to a successful and lawful voter registration exercise.
