In a significant operation conducted by the Ghana Police Service, a suspect has been apprehended at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region for possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and an unauthorised firearm. The arrest was carried out by the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit, following actionable intelligence.
The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was taken into custody after police received information that a self-proclaimed fetish priest in the area was allegedly involved in criminal activities and was in possession of a firearm. This development raised concerns about potential threats to public safety, prompting swift action by law enforcement authorities.
During a search of the suspect's residence, police uncovered a significant quantity of United States dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations, which are suspected to be counterfeit. In addition to the currency, law enforcement officers retrieved a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight rounds of 9mm blank ammunition.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue to determine the origins and authenticity of the recovered currency. Authorities are also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the unauthorised firearm and other seized items.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress. This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring public safety and addressing criminal activities that pose risks to communities.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and collaboration between law enforcement and the public in combating crime. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities as part of collective efforts to maintain peace and security in the country.
