In a significant legal development, social media personality Abu Trica has been ordered to remain in police custody for three weeks by the Gbese District Court. This decision comes as part of ongoing proceedings related to an alleged $8 million romance fraud case tied to the United States. The court’s ruling was issued during his latest appearance on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Abu Trica, alongside his alleged accomplice Daniel Yusif, is facing potential extradition to the United States, where authorities have accused him of orchestrating a large-scale online romance scam. The alleged scheme is reported to have defrauded victims of over $8 million. Both individuals appeared before the court as part of the legal process to determine whether they should be extradited to face trial in the U.S.

The case has garnered significant attention since its inception. Abu Trica was initially arrested on December 11, 2025, following an indictment by U.S. authorities. However, on January 26, 2026, the Gbese District Court discharged him and his co-accused after the state withdrew the initial charges against them. This brief reprieve was short-lived, as Abu Trica was re-arrested shortly thereafter by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC). Prosecutors subsequently filed new charges against him, including money laundering and conspiracy to defraud by false pretence.

The current proceedings before the Gbese District Court center on evaluating the legal grounds for Abu Trica’s potential extradition. During Wednesday’s hearing, the court decided to remand him into custody until March 18, 2026, when the case will resume for further hearings and deliberations.

The allegations against Abu Trica have raised broader concerns about the prevalence of online fraud schemes and their far-reaching impact on victims across borders. Authorities in the United States have been working closely with international partners to address such crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.

As the legal process unfolds, all eyes will remain on the March 18 court session, which is expected to shed further light on the extradition proceedings and the charges brought against Abu Trica and his co-accused. Until then, he will remain in custody as mandated by the court.

This case underscores the complexities of international legal cooperation in combating cybercrime and highlights the importance of holding individuals accountable for fraudulent activities that exploit unsuspecting victims worldwide.
