Three individuals, including a matron at Wovenu Senior High School (SHS) in Tadzewu, Volta Region, and a police officer, have been apprehended in connection with the alleged diversion of food supplies intended for students of the institution.

The arrests were made during the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, following reports that the suspects had been intercepted while transporting large quantities of food items believed to belong to the school.

According to information provided by Citi News, the operation, which took place at approximately 6:20 a.m., was spearheaded by the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Meli Atipoe, with the assistance of local community members.

At the time of their arrest, the suspects were found in possession of several bags of rice, cartons of tinned tomatoes, tinned fish, and gallons of cooking oil. The vehicle used for transporting the items was reportedly being driven by a Police Sergeant stationed in Ho. Sources allege that the officer is a close associate and boyfriend of the matron’s sister.

The unusual movement of the food items reportedly aroused suspicion among residents in the area, leading to their interception.

Following their apprehension, the suspects were initially handed over to the Tadzewu Police but were subsequently transferred to the Dzodze Police Command for further investigation. Authorities have indicated that inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the full scope of the alleged diversion and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved.

In response to the incident, the Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Martin Amenaki, has assured the public that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted. He emphasized that anyone found culpable will face appropriate legal consequences in accordance with the law.

The case has sparked significant public concern, as it highlights issues surrounding accountability and proper management of resources allocated for educational institutions. Authorities have called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help safeguard public resources.
