Ejura, Ashanti Region – A suspected armed robber has been fatally shot during a targeted anti-robbery operation conducted by the Ghana Police Service in the Ejura area. The operation, which was intelligence-led, took place on March 18, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to combat rising incidents of violent crime in the region.
In an official statement released via the police's X (formerly Twitter) handle, authorities confirmed that the operation was carried out by the Police Intelligence Directorate. The deceased suspect is believed to have been a member of a criminal gang responsible for a series of highway robberies that have plagued residents and commuters in the Ejura enclave.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspect to a recent robbery incident that occurred on March 14, 2026, along the Atebubu–Ejura highway. During that attack, the robbers reportedly opened fire on a moving vehicle, leaving one passenger injured. The police operation was aimed at dismantling the criminal network behind such violent acts.
Items retrieved from the suspect at the scene include a single-barrelled gun, five live cartridges, a Tecno Pop 10 mobile phone, and cash amounting to GH¢200. These exhibits are expected to aid further investigations into the activities of the gang.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. They emphasized that this operation is part of a broader, sustained effort to crack down on violent crime and ensure the safety of citizens. Law enforcement authorities have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend other members of the gang to bring them to justice.
The Ejura area has recently been plagued by an upsurge in armed robbery incidents, particularly on major highways. These developments have raised concerns among residents and prompted increased security measures by law enforcement agencies to restore safety and public confidence.
The police have called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely information that could assist in crime prevention and resolution.
