The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a woman following the circulation of a social media video in which she was seen dressed in official police attire. The incident has raised serious concerns about the unauthorized use of police gear.
The suspect, identified as Esther Obasi, was captured on video wearing both police camouflage and a standard black police uniform. The footage quickly garnered attention online, prompting an investigation by law enforcement authorities.
In a statement released via the Service’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the arrest was attributed to the efforts of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team. Preliminary inquiries into the matter led to the swift identification and detention of the suspect.
Further investigations revealed a connection between Ms. Obasi and a serving police officer. The officer in question was summoned to assist with the inquiry and subsequently admitted to providing the uniform to Ms. Obasi for washing purposes. The circumstances surrounding this transfer of official police attire are now under scrutiny.
Ms. Obasi is currently in police custody and is cooperating with authorities as investigations continue. The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of its operations and ensuring that such breaches are dealt with in accordance with the law.
This incident underscores the importance of safeguarding official uniforms and equipment to maintain public trust and ensure they are not misused or misrepresented. Further updates on the case are expected as investigations progress.
