In a deeply distressing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community of Agona Nkwanta in Ghana's Western Region, the Western Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest and remand of a 45-year-old ex-convict, Kudjo Ntow. He is accused of the heinous crimes of raping and murdering his wife's 17-year-old niece, Olivia Kwofie.
The tragic event unfolded during the early hours of June 1, 2026. According to an official police statement released on June 4, Ntow is alleged to have committed a series of appalling acts against the young victim. Reports indicate that he forcibly sealed Olivia's mouth with super glue, subjected her to sexual assault, and subsequently murdered her before fleeing the scene.
A Witness's Harrowing Discovery
At approximately 3:30 a.m. on the day of the incident, a witness identified as Samuel Kingsford Kwofie was on his way to his rubber plantation when he heard desperate cries for help near the School B area, close to the Fire Service Station in Agona Nkwanta. Rushing to investigate, he discovered Olivia in a horrifying state—naked, with her hands and legs bound with a rope.
In an act of bravery, Mr. Kwofie untied the victim and began escorting her to the police station. However, their path was violently interrupted when the suspect, Ntow, emerged from hiding and attacked them from behind. He struck Olivia with a cement block before fleeing once again. Tragically, Olivia succumbed to her injuries despite being rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic for medical attention.
Swift Police Action and Arrest
Following the brutal attack, local authorities launched an intensive manhunt for the suspect. On June 2, the Regional Police Intelligence team, in collaboration with officers from the Agona Nkwanta Police, successfully apprehended Ntow at his hideout in Nsuaem.
The police have since confirmed that Ntow is an ex-convict, a detail that has further fueled public outrage and calls for justice. He was promptly arraigned before the Appollo Circuit Court in Takoradi on June 3, where he was remanded into prison custody. Ntow is expected to reappear in court on June 17, 2026.
