In a shocking turn of events, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Nana Yaw Kyere, a 33-year-old mobile phone dealer. The incident, which has sent ripples of fear and concern throughout the community, took place in the Teshie area of Accra.
Nana Yaw Kyere, affectionately known as Dinero, was a well-known mobile phone dealer based in the Nkrumah Circle area of Accra. He was reported missing on September 22, 2026. Initial reports suggested that he had vanished without a trace, leaving friends and family in a state of distress.
However, subsequent information revealed that Nana Yaw had visited a woman in Teshie and was subsequently kidnapped and murdered. Disturbingly, it appears that the perpetrators attempted to destroy evidence of their heinous crime by setting his body ablaze.
Prior to the tragic incident, it is believed that Nana Yaw had an inkling that something untoward might occur. He reportedly sent messages to a friend via mobile phone, sharing his live location—a chilling testament to his foreboding.
On Monday, September 28, 2026, a police statement identified the three suspects as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai. Their arrest was the result of diligent investigations conducted by the Missing Persons Unit of Ghana Police.
The suspects were arraigned at the Teshie District Court on the same day and have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance on October 16, 2026.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered a grim sequence of events. It is alleged that Nana Yaw left his residence in Kokomlemle, Accra, on September 19, 2026, in his Honda Civic vehicle and never returned. The investigation suggests that he was lured to Philip Tefe's residence at Teshie Agbleza by Sarah Osei Adams.
Both suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. It is alleged that during a confrontation, Philip Tefe attacked Nana Yaw with a metallic object, inflicting serious injuries. The victim was then moved to another room where he succumbed to his injuries.
Further investigations revealed that on September 20, 2026, Nana Yaw's body was transported in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway. There, it was dumped in a bush and set ablaze. The partially burnt body was discovered at Tema Community 18 on September 21, 2026.
The victim's biological mother and an uncle were able to identify the body at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24, 2026.
In a related development, the police have recovered Nana Yaw's iPhone 12, which Philip Tefe allegedly sold for GH¢100. The buyer, Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained for dishonestly receiving the phone.
The investigation also led to the arrest of Josiah Obodai, who is being scrutinized for his role in the disposal of the body. His father's Kia Morning vehicle, believed to be used in transporting the body, has been impounded by authorities.
The police have assured the public that the three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend any additional individuals who may have been involved in this tragic case.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present need for vigilance and community cooperation in ensuring safety and justice for all citizens. The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and providing closure for the bereaved family of Nana Yaw Kyere.
