All election-related violence will be addressed – Police to EC

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Police and other security agencies to collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) and all relevant stakeholders in ensuring peaceful and credible elections in December this year.



During a meeting with the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, emphasized the dedication of the EC to organizing a peaceful, credible, and transparent election. Dr. Dampare assured that the police will actively address all security concerns in preparation for the upcoming polls.


"We’re here to listen to you to know the concerns that you have in the area of security ahead of the elections, so we position ourselves to resolve all of them. Already, the national election security task force is working with all relevant stakeholders and we will continue to do more to ensure that our country remains peaceful before, during, and after the polls. So we are here to assure you that we will address all your security concerns ahead of the polls," stated the IGP during the meeting at the EC headquarters on Thursday.


Chairperson Jean Mensa commended the proactive approach of the IGP and the Police leadership towards the upcoming polls, expressing confidence that their efforts will foster trust among all stakeholders.


Following an indoor meeting with the electoral commission, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi, revealed that the police is actively investigating election-related violence that occurred during the 2020 election and will provide updates to the public.


The collaboration between the Police and the Electoral Commission underscores a collective commitment to uphold peace and security during the electoral process. With both entities working in tandem, there is a strong assurance of a secure and peaceful environment for the upcoming elections.
