In a determined effort to restore law and order in the Ahafo Region, the Asutifi Police Command has made significant strides under the leadership of its newly appointed Police Commander, Superintendent Opoku Yamoah. Through a series of strategic operations targeting illicit activities, Superintendent Yamoah has demonstrated his commitment to curbing crime and ensuring the safety of residents.

Recent Operation Targets Drug Offenders

The latest operation, conducted in Acherensua, Ahafo Region, saw the arrest of five individuals engaged in smoking marijuana, a substance prohibited under Ghanaian law. Acting on intelligence and public complaints about escalating crime rates in the district, Superintendent Yamoah deployed a team of 21 police officers to ambush known "wee bases"—locations notorious for drug-related activities. The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects and the destruction of four makeshift structures used as bases for these activities.

The individuals arrested during the operation include:

- Derrick Ntora, 18 years, a worker

- Samuel Agbeko, 19 years, a laborer

- Sumaila Sulemana, 20 years, an illegal miner

- Adams Fuseini, 30 years, an illegal miner

- Fataw Dokoli, 20 years, a tricycle rider

Following their arrest, the suspects were arraigned before the court, where they were remanded and subsequently granted bail on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The court has ordered them to reappear on August 26, 2025.

Earlier Successes Against Commercial Sex Work

This operation comes on the heels of another successful initiative led by Superintendent Yamoah just weeks prior. In that operation, 16 commercial sex workers were arrested in Ahafo Kenyasi. These efforts have been widely praised by local chiefs and residents alike for addressing longstanding issues that have contributed to crime and social unrest in the district.

Restoring Order Through Swift Justice

One notable aspect of Superintendent Yamoah's approach has been his emphasis on fast-track court processing for offenders. By ensuring that suspects are swiftly arraigned and prosecuted, he has minimized opportunities for political interference or undue influence from stakeholders. This strategy has been instrumental in deterring potential criminals and restoring a sense of security among residents.

Community Commendation

The proactive measures undertaken by Superintendent Yamoah and his team have earned them widespread commendation from various quarters. Chiefs and community members have expressed their gratitude for the police commander’s decisive actions, which have brought a renewed sense of order to the district. Residents are hopeful that these efforts will continue to discourage criminal activities and foster a safer environment for all.

Looking Ahead

As Superintendent Opoku Yamoah continues to lead operations aimed at combating crime in the Ahafo Region, his actions serve as a testament to the importance of strong leadership and community collaboration in addressing societal challenges. With two successful operations already under his belt, the district is optimistic about further progress in its fight against crime.

The commitment demonstrated by Superintendent Yamoah and his team is a reminder that effective law enforcement can bring lasting change to communities plagued by criminal activities. As the suspects prepare to reappear in court later this month, residents will be watching closely to see justice served and the message reinforced that crime will not be tolerated in Ahafo Region.
